Karen Hein

Even when this artist is making more utilitarian pieces – teapots, vases, bowls, and mugs – she works to make them light and ephemeral.  “I have worked in several disciplines and am drawn to the Impressionist ideas of light and movement. I try to find an expression of those ideas through the form and decoration of clay,” says Hein.

“I attended pottery classes and workshops for a number of years, while establishing my own studio,” says Hein. She also earned an associate’s degree in fine art during this time.  In 2002, she and her husband moved to Midland. “ I continue to advance my knowledge of pottery and am combining both clay and paint in my decorative pieces,” she says.  “Pottery is best appreciated through both sight and touch. I receive great satisfaction in creating pottery that is pleasing to the eye and enjoyable to others,”

In addition to running her own studio, Karen also teaches at Space Studios, 16 Winding Road in Midland 989-835-8244,  Her work is sold at Imagine That!  and through her web site     http://www.karensclaystudio.com/
