Kandis Seymour, the owner of Metal Beads and Wire by Kandy, Seymour has been working with copper for almost 10 years. She sculpts the copper piping, sheets, and wire into artwork for the home and garden. “Copper always feels ‘warm’ to me. Silver and even gold isn’t as warm,” she says. “By adding the glass, this creates a lot of depth in my work.” Her hand-hammering of the metal and working with patinas give her birdbaths, angels, and garden sculptures a unique look. Seymour’s copper “drippers” were created after a friend mentioned using a bucket with a hole in it as a source of fresh water for the birds.
A member of the Midland Artists Guild, Seymour also creates her own beads through a process called “lampworking.” She melts glass with a flame to form the beads. Her work often incorporates beads, marbles, and other glass with the copper, allowing light to play off of both the metal and the colored glass.
“I am excited to be a part of Imagine That! – as it gives me
an outlet to show my work close to home,” says Seymour, a Midland resident.
“That is such an advantage to me after so many years of running all over the
state!
